        Step 1: Metals, Total Hardness, Phosphates:

 You know your water better than we do, bring us in a sample of water from the spigot you are planning on filling the tub with and we can test for Total Hardness, Phosphates & Metals. You’ll want to use a Pre-Filter on the end of your garden hose while filling. Note: Hot Tubs don’t like soft water, if filling with soft water is your best option you can add calcium back into the water. Phosphates in the water will burn through your sanitizer rapidly. Remove filter(s) and fill the spa with water from garden hose through the filter plumbing, DO NOT shove the hose down into the plumbing. We recommend filling though the filter opening to remove air from the plumbing lines. If air is locked in the plumbing, you can loosen the drain plug or union on top of the jet pump.
Install the filter(s) when the spa has been filled with water and before start-up. Make sure the filter(s) are covered in water, and the last row of jets is submerged underwater before turning on the breaker.   

Step 2: Balance your water

You will hear a lot of people talk about balancing your water on social media. What that means is having the Total Alkalinity between 80-120 PPM, PH between 7.2-7.6 and the Total Hardness between 150-250 PPM. Our water test also shows us the current levels of Alkalinity, PH and Hardness. You don’t want these too high, nor too low, you want them balanced. If they are too high or too low, you may feel discomfort, like itchiness or other skin irritations. Also, if these items are not balanced the water chemistry will shorten longevity of your spa and spa equipment. We recommend the FROG Balancing Basics Kit to get started. Always balance the Alkalinity first, then the PH and then the Total Hardness.

Step 3: Sanitation

The sanitation of the spa varies, each system will have its own test strips for testing the sanitizer level and Alkalinity, PH and Hardness. Some of the most popular Sanitizers are:

· Frog @Ease Floater (SmartChlor)

· Frog Serene Floater (Bromine)

· Sodium Bromide Salt System

· Bromine Tablet Floater

· Di-Chlor Granular

NEVER USE 1” or 3” CHLORINE TABLETS (TRI-CHLOR) in a hot tub

Step 4: Filters

Filters are an important part of clean water. Dirty filters are the #1 reason why hot tubs freeze in Minnesota/Wisconsin Winters. Clean your paper filter weekly with a high-pressure nozzle.  There is an after-market filter, Ego3 Filters, that only needs to be cleaned once a month and to clean them, it is as EZ as rinsing out a sponge in a sink. 

Step 5: As-Needed

From time to time, you may have other issues, here is a list of some issues you may experience and a solution for each:

· Sand on the floor of the spa – Spa Vac

· Leaves or other debris floating in the water – Pool Skimmer

· Excessive foam – Foam Down

· Water is clear but has an off-colored tint – Oxidized metals in water – Bright and Clear

· Oils from cosmetics/personal hygiene products on water surface – Oil Absorbing Sponge

· Need to Drain the Spa Quickly – Utility Pump

· Musty Smell when opening the cover – 303 Mold and Mildew 

·Cleaning the cover & acrylic - 303 Multi Surface Cleaner

· U/V Protecting the cover & acrylic  - 303 UV Protectant
