You’re exploring Pillar 4: Oxidation—the quiet helper that breaks down contaminants so your sanitizer doesn’t have to do all the work.

Pillar 4: Oxidation—The Quiet Helper Working While You Sleep

Sanitizer kills germs; oxidation cleans up after everyone. It breaks down body oils, lotions, and used-up sanitizer byproducts so your sanitizer works less hard and your water feels fresher. A real work-reducer — but always a helper, never a replacement for sanitizer.

The three tools, plainly

  • Ozone — a gas injected into the water that oxidizes contaminants around the clock. The workhorse; standard or optional on most quality spas.
  • UV-C — a light chamber the water passes through. One honest thing to know: the bulb loses strength long before it stops glowing, so replace it on your manufacturer’s schedule even if it “looks fine.”
  • AOP — combines ozone and UV-C to create short-lived, highly reactive oxidizers in the treatment chamber. It can further reduce contaminants and byproducts, which many owners notice as fresher-feeling, fresher-smelling water.

Good, better, best

This is the one pillar where you can level up the same job:

  • Good — Ozonator. Standard or optional across Artesian’s series; every series comes ozone-ready.
  • Better — Crystal ProPure™. Advanced Plasma Gap ozone, offered on Artesian Elite and TidalFit.
  • Best — Diamond AOP™. Ozone + UV-C combined; offered on Artesian Elite, Island, South Seas, and TidalFit.

AOP and salt — friends or rivals?

Different pillars, different jobs: AOP is an oxidation upgrade; salt is a sanitizer-delivery choice. You don’t pick between them on merit — you check compatibility. Some salt systems (like Blu-Fusion) install in the ozone line, so the ozonator comes out; some monitoring systems don’t pair with ozone at all. Planning to combine systems? Ask us first — we’ll map what works together on the spa you want.

Does ozone mean I can skip chlorine or bromine?
No. Ozone destroys a lot of junk in the moment, but it doesn’t maintain the lasting protective level your water needs between soaks. Every spa needs a measurable sanitizer at all times — oxidation just means that sanitizer works less hard.
Is AOP worth the upgrade on a hot tub?
For heavy users, sensitive skin, or anyone who values that “fresh water” feel, it’s often the favorite upgrade in the lineup. For a couple who soaks occasionally, a standard ozonator plus good habits may be plenty. It’s a comfort-and-workload upgrade, not a requirement.
Does AOP make hot tub water softer?
No — AOP doesn’t change water hardness. What owners describe as “softer” is usually water with fewer built-up byproducts, which can genuinely feel and smell better. Nice result, wrong word.

Already own a spa with DEL, AquaNova or Diamond AOP?

If your existing AOP unit has failed, our sister store carries the current 240-volt DEL AOP Spa 2 replacement for compatible AquaNova and Diamond AOP-equipped hot tubs and swim spas. Compatibility, voltage, plumbing and electrical connections should be verified before ordering.

Your sanitizer protects the water, and oxidation lightens its workload. Now see how three balance numbers help hold the entire system together.
