Infrared, Traditional or Hybrid?

Choosing the type of heat is the biggest decision.

  • Infrared saunas warm your body directly at lower air temperatures and are often ready in 10–20 minutes.
  • Traditional saunas use a rock heater for high heat and steam. Ladle water on the stones and plan on 30–45 minutes for the rocks to fully heat.
  • Hybrid saunas put both in one cabin, so you don't have to choose.

Red light therapy panels come standard on many models.

What Power Does a Home Sauna Need?

Electrical is the question to settle before you buy.

  • Many infrared models and compact traditional models plug into a dedicated 120V outlet, with no other appliances on that circuit.
  • Larger rock heaters need a 240V circuit, and some are hardwired by a licensed electrician.
  • Hybrids run their two heat sources on two separate circuits.

Every product page lists the exact requirement. We'll review your plan when you ask for pricing.

Saunas – Frequently Asked Questions

A traditional sauna heats the air with an electric rock heater. You get high heat, and steam when you ladle water on the stones. An infrared sauna uses infrared panels that warm your body directly at lower air temperatures, so sessions feel gentler and the cabin heats up faster. Hybrid saunas include both.

It depends on the model. Several infrared saunas and compact traditional saunas plug into a dedicated 120V outlet, so many homes only need that outlet added. Larger traditional heaters need a 240V circuit, and some are hardwired, which takes a licensed electrician. Each product page lists the exact circuit.

Icelandic Sauna models at MinnSpas range from $3,999 MSRP for a one-person infrared sauna to $17,299 MSRP for a five-person outdoor traditional sauna. Your MinnSpas price can be lower, so ask for a quote. Budget separately for any electrical work, plus delivery and setup if you don't pick it up. Financing is available.

Yes. Basements, home gyms and spare rooms are the easiest spots for indoor saunas. A garage works if it stays dry and heated. You need a level floor, clearance around the cabin, and the right circuit nearby. Tell us the space and we'll help you check the fit.

Infrared saunas are often ready in 10–20 minutes. Traditional rock heaters take longer: plan on 30–45 minutes for the stones to fully heat for good steam.

Many of our saunas include red LED light panels that you can switch on during a session. They're a popular part of home recovery routines. Models with red light include glasses to protect your eyes during longer exposure.

Indoor saunas are the easiest to fit and power, and they're usable in any weather without stepping outside. Outdoor saunas are built for the backyard, often near a hot tub. They use traditional rock heaters and need a level surface that won't settle (a concrete pad, patio or sturdy deck) and a 240V circuit.

Both. Saunas ship as boxed panels. You can pick yours up at our Apple Valley showroom, or we can deliver and set it up for you. We'll confirm timing and cost when we quote your price.
