Short answer: Himalayan salt in a sauna is pink salt built into the cabin as a block, a backlit block or salt diffusers. It glows when the lights are on and gives the sauna a warm, spa-like look. It is not the same as a salt room, where a machine fills the air with fine salt. Seven of the Icelandic saunas at MinnSpas include it.

What Is Himalayan Salt in a Sauna?
It’s pink Himalayan salt set into the sauna cabin. Depending on the model it comes as salt diffusers with a salt block, as a standard built-in salt feature, or as a backlit salt block. When the cabin lighting is on, the salt glows a soft amber-pink.
What you’ll notice is the look and the mood: a warm glow instead of a plain wood wall.
A Salt Sauna Is Not a Salt Room
“Salt therapy,” also called halotherapy, usually means sitting in a salt room or salt cave. Many of those rooms use a machine that grinds salt and blows the fine particles into the air for you to breathe. Others are simply rooms lined with large amounts of salt.
A sauna with a Himalayan salt block is different. There is no machine putting salt into the air. The salt sits in the cabin and glows.
That matters when you watch videos about salt therapy: most of what you’ll hear is about salt rooms, not about a salt block in a sauna.
Which MinnSpas Saunas Have Himalayan Salt?
- Himalayan 620 and 630 (infrared): Himalayan salt diffusers and a salt block that glow when the cabin lighting is on.
- TimberSteel 420, 430 and 450 (traditional indoor, rock heater): Himalayan salt is a standard feature.
- Reyk 520 and 550 (outdoor, rock heater): a backlit Himalayan salt block inside the cabin.
All seven also include red light therapy. See Red Light Therapy in a Sauna.
Here Is What the Internet Is Saying About Salt Therapy
These videos are from outside sources. MinnSpas did not make them and is not affiliated with the people in them. Their opinions and any health claims are their own, not ours, and nothing here is medical advice. They are mostly about salt rooms, which work differently from a salt block in a sauna.
