What to Know Before Buying a 5-Person Hot Tub
Five-person hot tubs typically measure 84″ to 92″ square — roughly 7 to 7¾ feet per side. That puts them in the mid-size category: enough seating for a family or a small group, but still a manageable footprint for most residential decks and patios. Filled weight generally runs 3,200–4,000 lbs, so a proper foundation matters. A 4-inch reinforced concrete pad is the cleanest option; if you’re using an existing deck, confirm load capacity before delivery.
At this size, 240V power is standard. Most 5-person models require a 50-amp dedicated circuit. Plan for that early in the process — it’s a straightforward install for a licensed electrician, but you want it done before delivery day.
Seating Options in a 5-Person Hot Tub
The most common 5-person layout pairs one full lounge seat with four upright bucket seats, giving you therapeutic stretch for one person while everyone else sits in standard position. Some models offer a different split: two captain’s chairs with elevated back positioning and three lower seats, or a more open bench-style seating ring with no lounge seat at all.
For families, an open bench or mixed layout often works better than a lounge-dominated configuration — kids and shorter users can sit comfortably in upright seats without the lounge taking up prime real estate. For couples or adults using the spa primarily for hydrotherapy, a single lounge or dual-lounge layout is worth prioritizing. Browse by Lounge Seating, Dual Lounge, or Open Seating to compare layouts.
5-Person Hot Tubs for Families
For households with kids, the 5-person size threads the needle well. The shell is large enough that two adults and two or three children can use it at the same time without feeling jammed together. Jet zones are typically well-distributed — back jets, shoulder jets, and foot jets across most seat positions — which matters more once kids start competing for the “best” seat.
If safety features matter to your purchase decision (and with kids they should), look for models with a clearly accessible topside control, a well-fitting cover with locking straps, and a reliable cover lift mechanism. We can walk through those details in person at our showroom or over the phone.
5-Person Hot Tubs — New vs. Refurbished
5-person models appear regularly in our refurbished spa program. Like all of our refurbished inventory, they go through a full mechanical rebuild before resale — pumps, motors, heater, and key components replaced as needed, not just inspected. If budget is a factor and you’re flexible on model, join the Priority List on the refurbished page and tell us what you’re looking for.
